Instructions for Installing the Agitator/Regulator
See also: Step-by-step instructions for using the agitator/regulator.
Applicable to the following sprayer models:
- SP0
- SP0V
- SP1
- SP1E
- SP2
- SP3
- EstateKeeper
- The Piston
- SP1/C
- Farm & Home 477 Diaphragm
- Farm & Home 528 Piston
- Agrimex
Step-by-step how to:
- Unscrew both nuts that hold the diaphragm crank to the pump handle. Remove both nuts and pressure washer. Pull crank away from the two screws. It is not necessary to remove the aluminum crank from the diaphragm.
- Remove the clip that holds the pump handle in the spray pack.
- Slide the pump handle slowly to the left, then slip out the screws from the pump handle completely. Finish sliding the handle to the left and remove completely from spray pack. Be sure not to lose the nylon washers.
- Remove the hose from the sprayer by removing the 90° fitting and hose clamp. The diaphragm is now exposed and can be removed.
- Place a large rubber band over the circular metal ring that holds the diaphragm together or use a pair of gloves to grip the pump module. Turn the complete diaphragm counter-clockwise until it is completely unscrewed from the spray pack. Set the pump module aside.
- Once the diaphragm has been removed, you will notice a small mark or plastic protrusion, both on the diaphragm and on the spray pack. These marks are for alignment and must align for proper functioning.
- With a screw driver, loosen the large metal clamp that holds the pressure chamber in place and remove the clamp completely. Stand the sprayer upright and place your hand on top of the pressure chamber. Press down and move from side to side until the pressure chamber is completely out of the sprayer.
- Place the Agitator/Regulator into the tank and push up into the tank until it is completely into the sprayer. You will notice an aligning notch cut out on the chamber and a protrusion on the tank - make sure these align. Once the chamber is all the way in, replace the retention clamp and tighten.
- You are now ready to replace the pump module. Locate the aligning marks on the spray pack and diaphragm. Oil the O-rings to prevent damage and make threading easier. Place the diaphragm into the proper position and turn clockwise. Continue to turn diaphragm until the large O-ring is no longer visible. Make sure the markings on the diaphragm and spray pack are aligned.
- Replace the pump handle into the spray pack. Make sure the nylon washers are in place. Slide the handle in slowly and immediately replace the screws to the screw holes.
- Once the screws are in place, push the pump handle all the way into the spray pack and replace the pin.
- Reconnect the hose by inserting the 90° fitting into its original position and tighten the hose clamp.
- Replace the screws through the holds on the aluminum crank. Place pressure washer and nut. Tighten firmly.
- Your sprayer is now ready to use.
Using the Agitator/Regulator
The Agitator/Regulator has been designed with a cap/dial that allows you to vary the pressure according to your needs. Pressures from 10-15 psi up to 40-50 psi can be achieved by simply turning the cap/dial in ¼ turn increments.
When agitation is not needed and full pressure is desired, you may replace the spring and pin with the colored pin provided and fasten firmly.
For safety, the unit has been designed so that pressure can be varied without having chemical spray touch your hands. When servicing is needed, the cap/dial is fully removed.
Approximate Agitation/Pressures:
These are approximate pressures, based on normal, constant pumping.
- 40-50 psi: cap is completely tight
- 35-45 psi: ¼ turn
- 30-40 psi: +¼ turn, total of ½ turn
- 25-35 psi: +¼ turn, total of ¾ turn
- 20-25 psi: +¼ turn, total of 1 full turn
- 15-20 psi: +¼ turn, total of 1¼ turns
- 10-15 psi: +¼ turn, total of 1½ turns
Additional turning of the cap will remove it for cleaning.
